xCenta Solutions launches Health and Safety information portal for the Automotive Sector

Issued to Automotive Media

Keeping up with the latest changes in health and safety legislation is crucial and xCenta, a leading voice on automotive health and safety in the UK, has launched a new website which provides up to date information and guidance on legislation and other related issues impacting the sector.

At www.xcenta.co.uk, automotive professionals can now keep abreast of the latest changes and announcements sourced from the HSE that are of specific relevance to their business. The new website also provides access to the xCenta health and safety management system.

Peter Purdom, director of xCenta comments: “On the whole, the automotive industry is well aware of its commitments when it comes to implementing health and safety. However, maintaining a consistent approach and ensuring good practice must be a priority for senior management. The HSE has recognised the industry to be a highly hazardous one hence the establishment of the Motor Vehicle Repair Forum, a focus group to monitor and advise on health and safety for the sector. Knowing and understanding changes and assessing new risks quickly is critical to being a good employer by protecting the workforce.

Health and safety covers many different areas in the workplace and understanding how changes to legislation and standards that affects so many diverse working environments are all relevant, be it in the showroom, garage or back office, is complex and time consuming.”

With 11 fatal accidents taking place in the sector between April 2007 and October 2008, the need to take appropriate health and safety measures seriously is clear.

“Companies can no longer merely pay lip service to health and safety and must take greater responsibility for ensuring better knowledge and awareness of correct procedures throughout the business. This is being demonstrated through the increase in fines and penalties for prosecution coming into force this month. Health and safety must be a key component in business management and irrespective of the economic climate, companies should not shy away from their legal commitments in order to find financial savings” adds Purdom.

xCenta has developed this portal to share the knowledge gained in keeping its health and safety management system up to date and provide a source of automotive-specific health and safety advice to keep businesses aware of latest information. Used by many of the UK’s leading automotive dealerships, the system provides an active step-by-step guide to health and safety enabling dealerships to ensure and demonstrate compliance.
